Violet Blue’s Brought Her Toy Box!

Hi,

Today, Superotica is delighted to be hosting Violet Blue‘s tour for The Adventurous Couple’s Guide to Sex Toys. I’ve just finished reading it and, as you’ll find out from my review below, we all have a lot to learn.  Luckily, Violet teaches in a most entertaining way and I would challenge anyone to read this fun book and not want to introduce a new toy or two into their bedroom!

Review: The Adventurous Couple’s Guide to Sex Toys

 By Violet Blue

Violet Blue has long since proved her credentials as one of America’s top sex educators and writers, so I was thrilled to be asked to review her new book, The Adventurous Couple’s Guide to Sex Toys. Even though I write erotica and hardly consider myself an ingénue in this area—after all, sex toys are an erotica writer’s props—I just knew I’d find all sorts of delights between these colourful covers. And I have to say, I wasn’t wrong. Entertaining and informative in equal measure, this is an invaluable guide for both sex toy novices and the more experienced looking for fresh thrills.

What’s great about this book is its accessibility—the information is laid out clearly in logical chapters that offer instant gratification. If you want to know about which toy to use for what, there’s a chapter designed to help you pick. If you’re not sure how to put on a strap on, turn straight to page 74. Looking for something that might provide the ultimate thrill? Head for the Exotic Sex Toys section. And there are line-drawings throughout so you know what’s what. Here are the chapter headings, but an extended table of contents in the book breaks each chapter into sections so you can easily find what you need.

·         Chapter 1 – Basic Models, and Care and Feeding of Your Toys

·         Chapter 2 – First-Time Toys and Gifts

·         Chapter 3 – Come Together

·         Chapter 4 – Kinky Toys for Two

·         Chapter 5 – Strap-Ons and Bend Over Boyfriend

·         Chapter 6 – Teledildonic Toys: Online Sex for Two

·         Chapter 7 – Sex Machines

·         Chapter 8 – Exotic Sex Toys

·         Chapter 9 – Sex Furniture

·         Chapter 10 – Shop Smart and Recommended Resources

Teledildonic? Yes, I had to go straight to that chapter, too! And, yes, we have now entered the age of cybersex!

Throughout, Blue’s plain-talking, easy to read style always informs clearly and never patronises. The world of sex toys can be something of a maze—there are so many to choose from and multiple considerations, ranging from Which toy offers the turn on we’re looking for? to Should it be made of silicone or jelly rubber? Multi-speed or multi-functional? These, and all sorts of other questions you might be too embarrassed to ask in a shop, are answered—and even the most experienced lovers will find Blue’s advice invaluable.

What did I learn? Well, an awful lot—but these are the stand-outs:

  • I learned that teledildonic is an actual word!
  • That there are places in the world where you can get anal beads made from fresh water pearls.
  • That robotocists were employed to create Thethrillhammer – a custom-built, multi-function sex machine.
  • You can make a clone of your partner’s penis (or your own!) with a Clone-a-Willy kit.
  • Or if you want something more other-worldly, you can buy an alien cock dildo from Alien Dildos!

On a more serious note, for those who’ve never tried the delights of toys in the bedroom, this is the perfect introduction. Sex toys can spice up any partnership and bring new levels of thrill and satisfaction.  But there are sex toys and there are sex toys—you wouldn’t buy a new washing machine without doing at least a modicum of research, so don’t get caught out ordering a second-rate vibrator online. Violet Blue’s done her research, so take advantage of it and you’ll find the fun’s all yours.

Five stars!
